Hertfordshire-based TOMD (The Outsourced Marketing Department) celebrating 25th anniversary




A Sawbridgeworth-based specialist marketing agency is celebrating its 25th anniversary by looking forward to another quarter-century operating in the Hertfordshire community.

TOMD (The Outsourced Marketing Department), which began life in 1999, provides marketing services to financial services, legal and accountancy businesses across the UK.

In 2023, the firm underwent a major rebranding to position itself for the next decade and beyond.

TOMD has grown from initially serving a few small- and medium-sized businesses to today working with hundreds of financial advisory firms every year, blue-chip multinationals with household names and significant legal and accountancy firms.

Born in a small barn in Little Hadham before the turn of the millennium, the firm has deep roots in Hertfordshire. Over 25 years in the area, TOMD has employed many local people.

TOMD’s growth has seen it go from an original team to its current size of more than 20 people, including specialists in content, design, web and account management.

Meanwhile, the firm has become ever more focused on its niche expertise offering dedicated marketing to financial services, legal and accountancy firms. The firm’s focus on automation and technology enables its team to offer dedicated marketing services to more than 1,200 advisory firms each year.

In July last year, it also launched a new content sharing platform called Content Streams which is designed to help firms automate their content sharing. IFAs, wealth managers and mortgage brokers can use it to drive client engagement, retention and acquisition. Currently focused on financial services, the software can be used across any sector, any time and anywhere.

Mike Johnstone, founder and one of the company’s directors, said: “The past 25 years have really flown by. It has been a privilege to work with so many brilliant team members whose expertise and dedication has allowed us to deliver tremendous results time and time again.

TOMD is a prolific publisher, writing hundreds of articles every year on behalf of its many client firms. TOMD also specialises in web design and has, to date, built and hosts over 800 client websites.

It works closely with a number of firms as their outsourced marketing department, offering bespoke support that includes producing blog posts and articles as well as designing and printing company brochures and managing their social media accounts.
