Carmelcrest Group chairman Ray Spooner setting up free entrepreneur academy in Bishop's Stortford to help people be successful in business
A successful businessman wants to pass on his 36 years' experience running multi-million-pound companies to people dreaming big by launching an entrepreneur academy.
Ray Spooner, 59-year-old business mentor and chairman of Bishop's Stortford-based building contractor Carmelcrest Group, is looking to give something back by helping people who are interested in starting their own business or building their existing firm.
He mentored his five sons and they took over the running of the business from him in 2017. Ben is managing director, Steve is operations director, Adam's the estimator, Luke is the accountant and Alex is property manager.
The free sessions would start at the company's offices at Peek Business Centre on the Woodside industrial estate off Dunmow Road, once coronavirus restrictions allow. They would be monthly initially to discuss various business topics.
"This will be totally free of charge – no strings, no catches, no add-ons," said Spooner. "Just me giving others my 36 years' worth of knowledge."
Spooner's father George founded Carmelcrest in 1983 and he became managing director at the age of 28. It operates in the health care, local authority, blue light and leisure sectors, and is known for its ability to carry out tricky projects. There is also Carmelcrest Homes, which holds a large property portfolio.
Spooner has gained numerous academic qualifications over the years, including membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He is also a master practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP).
A life-long learner with an excellent knowledge of systems and processes to increase efficiency and gross margin, as well as budgeting, sales and marketing skills, he is also a published author.
His first book, 50 Skills: The Entrepreneurs' Handbook, came out in 2019 and he is working on a second, entitled What They Didn't Teach You About Money at School, to help young and old alike understand how to use their money effectively, invest and become wealthy.
"By using my 36 years' experience of building successful businesses, which are still very successful, I can help you by fast-tracking your business knowledge, growing your turnover and profits, and by helping you make the best business decisions," said Spooner, who lives in Great Abington, Cambridgeshire.
"Business has given me an amazing life of not only money but freedom, and there's nothing like it. But, as you already know, none of that comes without hard work.
"I have proven, and am still proving, my skills in business and am here to help."
Anyone interested in being part of the academy should call Ray Spooner's PA Alex on 07743 801449 for an initial conversation. For more information about Carmelcrest, see www.carmelcrestgroup.com.
