Churchill's is in the running to be named the Best Restaurant Chain in Britain at the British Takeaway Awards (BTAs).

The fish and chips chain – which has 14 outlets, including one in Cambridge Road, Stansted – is one of six finalists for what is a new prize this year following a public vote.

Churchill's is part of the Start Hill-based, family-owned Chesterford Group whose brands also include Fish'n'Chick'n, whose flagship branch is at Thorley Park. If it wins the accolade it will receive £5,000.

The BTAs, in association with Just Eat, will be held in London in September.

"Celebrating the fantastic local takeaways across the UK is particularly important this year after many turned to their local restaurants for a lift throughout the lockdowns," said Just Eat managing director Andrew Kenny.

"The UK has been voting in force to give back to their local takeaway heroes and we can't wait to honour the winners at the awards ceremony in September."
