A company offering flexible workspaces for professional businesspeople is expanding as it brings its community-led creative environment to Bishop's Stortford.

The Residence has already proved a huge hit in Newport, near Saffron Walden, where its motto 'Changing the way work happens' has given entrepreneurs a collaborative and buzzy atmosphere in which to be successful in their field.

With the Newport site now at full capacity, savvy business owner and founder Karen Tait has decided the time is right to grow her business and help businesspeople emerge after a truly challenging year into the ideal coworking space in brand new, stunning premises at Wickham Hall.

"As a rapidly expanding industry, flexible workspaces are becoming very sought after," said Karen, who lived in Stortford for six years when children Ben and Chloe attended The Bishop's Stortford High School and Thorn Grove Primary School respectively and now resides in Saffron Walden with husband Nick.

"Not only do they offer the user a professional place to work, but they also help eliminate costly financial commitments, combat loneliness and provide room to grow for ambitious business owners, freelancers and people needing a smart space away from their home office.

"The Residence will not only offer you a space to work but many of the services that you would expect from a serviced office, including virtual address and mail delivery, phone answering admin services, networking together with a full programme of events, designed to inspire and help your business grow."

The Residence is also the ideal solution for employed people who now find themselves being given the flexibility to work from home and who want to be part of a coworking environment.

The decision to move to farmer David Harvey's growing Wickham Hall site was partly inspired by a shared vision, with Karen being impressed by the site's eco credentials. Harvey, who is the third generation of his family to farm Wickham Hall, has been busy expanding the site's commercial zone with new buildings and the repurposing of existing barns.

His grand vision, which includes wanting to develop a wedding and conference venue with a small hotel and a community sports facility, has the environment at its heart with plans for a solar park and a park and ride site which would be linked to solar with an EV charging centre and potentially a hydrogen generation point.

"Wickham Hall is the ideal location for our expansion plans. As well as being a beautiful location, we can create a purpose-built space which brings together all the elements which make up the ideal flexible environment," said Karen, who has been working with Sworders to create her space and will be bringing the outside in with a clever use of plants and seating.

"With capacity at just under 100 people, the space will offer private offices, permanent desks, hot desks, meeting rooms, communal hub and a chill-out area, all with free parking."

The Residence at Wickham Hall is due to open in June. Karen is busy putting together the final touches with her architect and interior designer.

"I'm delighted Karen has chosen Wickham Hall as her second location for The Residence," said Harvey. "It adds perfectly to the mix of businesses we have here and there is a real demand for this kind of offering."

The space can also be used for events, product launches, photographic shoots and networking events.

"We've created our spaces with you in mind, custom-built to embrace adaptable working solutions and every detail is designed to help you work smarter," said Karen, who previously worked in investment banking.

"Our flexible approach means that you can book a coworking desk for the day, a week or become a permanent member with a designated desk or private office. Our agile working style means we don't have a lot of fixed packages and plans. Just tell us what you need and we'll price it accordingly."
