Former estate agent and Royal Marine Terry Farthing focusing on London Jet Charter business at Stansted Airport

The sky’s the limit for a former estate agent who wants to help people fly smarter with his new private jet charter company.

Terry Farthing has sold Airport Lettings, which he set up in 1998, to devote his full attention to London Jet Charter, which provides luxurious travel for everyone from business professionals and sports teams to hen parties and couples wanting to celebrate in style.

It offers a wide range of airports, from private airstrips to international hubs, and a huge choice of aircraft, from four-seater turboprops to Boeing 747s.

Terry, 63, is originally from Harlow and joined the Royal Marines at 17, going on tours to Norway and around the Mediterranean. After a spell as a press photographer and working on oil rigs in the Arctic Circle north of the Shetland Islands, he founded Airport Lettings at Stansted Airport.

He thoroughly enjoyed building up the estate agency business, but, after also doing part-time work as a private flight charter broker and damaging a tendon two years ago, which made driving more difficult, he felt now was the time to focus fully on his passion for aircraft and getting people to their destinations with a first-class service.

So he sold Airport Lettings to Intercounty – part of LSL Property Services – and now hopes his venture will take off, having registered the London Jet Charter name six years ago.

“If somebody’s planning a business trip, golf trip or trip for a significant anniversary, for example, we can arrange a private flight,” said managing director Terry, whose wife Elaine also works for the business. They have two sons, Aaron, 20, and Oliver, 16, and live in Great Sampford.

“You would call me or go to our website for almost an instant quote. You might say you’ve got four people who want to fly to Paris on this date, and I then go to the owners and operators to find the best aircraft at the best price.”

London Jet Charter has access to a large fleet of first-rate private jets and crew, flying from one to 220 passengers, for bespoke flights.

Whether the destination is as near as Manchester or as far away as America, Terry and his team will get you there in total comfort as VIP service comes as standard.

The luxury Inflite terminal at Stansted can create a memorable experience, while ‘time is money’ clients have the option of just turning up and getting straight on the plane.

“It’s luxurious and a totally different experience to flying, full stop,” said Terry, whose business is based in new premises at Stansted’s Endeavour House.

“You just turn up at Inflite, walk straight through – because I will have done everything to pre-clear you – get on your plane and you’re off. Your wish is our command.

“Our main concern is always our client’s safety and we offer an outstanding level of service.”

London Jet Charter is a member of the Air Charter Association and the Stansted Airport Community Network. Terry is studying for further qualifications in the aviation industry.
