Former Herts and Essex High School student Lauren Riley launches online business Riley Tutoring

A former Herts and Essex High School student is passing on her love of learning after setting up her own tutoring business.

Lauren Riley, 23, launched online-based Riley Tutoring in September, two months after graduating with a masters degree, with the aim of establishing the company as one that students and their parents can rely on for high-quality, reliable tuition.

Lauren, who lives in The Hedgerows, Bishop's Stortford, can help pupils with challenging course content and exam technique as well as provide useful feedback as she and her team of tutors are familiar with mark schemes.

"We have a team of tutors who are currently studying at, or have recently graduated from, top UK universities," said Lauren.

"Helping students achieve their goals and improve their confidence is something that we thoroughly enjoy as it is extremely rewarding.

"We have experienced a range of teaching styles in lectures, workshops and tutorials during our time at university, which has helped to develop our tutoring skill sets."

Lauren, who attended Herts and Essex from 2008 to 2015, has always loved science and maths, taking physics, chemistry and maths at A-level.

She graduated in July with a first-class masters chemistry degree from the University of Southampton. During her fourth year she completed a six-month placement at the University of Sydney, and also undertook a summer laboratory placement at the RAJA Group following her second year of studies and has had a paper published using the results of a research project.

"I really enjoyed my time at Herts and Essex and at the University of Southampton, and I really enjoyed tutoring science and maths alongside my degree," said Lauren, who worked part-time at Waitrose in Stortford during sixth form and attended bothBishop's Stortford air cadets and Jenny Myhill School of Dance whilst at school.

"After graduating in July I took on new students as I had lots of time after completing my degree and, due to the demand, set up Riley Tutoring as I wanted to provide a high-quality tutoring service to as many people as possible.

"I would like Riley Tutoring to be an established local tutoring company who people can rely on for high-quality, reliable tuition."

Lauren will be looking to take on more tutors as demand increases and is currently looking for another tutor who can teach GCSE English language and literature.
