Wattle & Co, the Australian-inspired coffee shop in Bishop's Stortford town centre, has closed after just six months.

The South Street business, which opened in September, served artisan coffee and loose-leaf teas alongside its locally sourced, organic and seasonal food dishes.

During Wattle’s short time in business, it earned glowing reviews on TripAdvisor for its home-made cakes, produced by the cafe’s Antipodean pastry chef.

A message from Wattle’s team to customers displayed on the front door explains the closure.

It says: “Thank you for all your support and custom over the last six months. It has been great to serve you great coffee + tea as well as all of our delicious food and cakes. It has been a pleasure to get to know you day after day and all of us here at Wattle wish you the best in the future.

“Closing hasn’t been easy for us, but due to the high costs of our top-quality produce and ensuring all of it was fresh and creating it on site, along with a few unfortunate events over the winter meant that as a small independent local business, we couldn’t survive financially. Love from the team @ Wattle xxx.”
