Pollution in Bishop's Stortford generally - and specifically at the busy Hockerill junction - is a growing concern after illegal levels of nitrogen dioxide were recorded. Highs of more than 70 micrograms of nitrogen dioxide per cubic metre of air have been measured - against the legal annual mean limit of 40. Graham McAndrew, East Herts Council's executive member for environment and the public space, has taken a special interest in the issue for Independent readers.
