Charlie Chaplin’s son gives ex-Stortford dancer seal of approval
A former pupil at Bishop’s Stortford’s Graham School of Dance and Theatre Arts met Charlie Chaplin’s son Eugene when he watched her ballet company perform a specially choreographed show about the life of his father.
For the past three years, professional dancer Corinne Cox, 23, has worked for the DJKT Theatre company in the Czech Republic. She dances the lead female role in the ballet Chaplin.
The original dance composition is framed by a musical collage with hits from Chaplin’s films.
Corinne – a former pupil at Summercroft Primary School – attended Graham School of Dance in Southmill Road from 1998 until 2006 before moving on to study at Elmhurst Ballet School, which is affiliated to Birmingham Royal Ballet.
She said: “I was so pleased to hear that Mr Chaplin thought our ballet was an excellent portrayal of his father’s life and that he really enjoyed the performance. It was really interesting to meet him.”
Eugene Chaplin – the fifth child of Charlie Chaplin and Oona O’Neill – is a Swiss recording engineer and documentary filmmaker.
