Ex-BBC Essex and Radio Caroline DJ Ray Clark is Harlow Hospital Radio’s first patron

After 50 years of broadcasting to patients and staff at Princess Alexandra, Harlow Hospital Radio (HHR) has appointed its first ever patron.

The station, staffed entirely by volunteers, welcomed former BBC Essex presenter Ray Clark at its annual general meeting.

Ray, known to many Essex radio listeners as the voice of the Beeb station’s morning and afternoon shows, gave HHR members and guests an entertaining talk about his life in radio, encouraging everyone to “follow your dreams and never take no as an answer”.

Ray’s radio career dates back to the 1960s, including spells with original pirate radio station Radio Caroline and an ongoing relationship with KDKA in Pittsburgh, USA.

HHR has now extended its reach, with a web player and online service available through Amazon Alexa units enabling listeners to tune in from anywhere.

It welcomes new members, whether as presenters or part of its backroom team. Find out more at www.harlowhospitalradio.com or any of its social media platforms.
