Women-only gym and wellness hub AbFabFit Club offers range of programmes in Bishop’s Stortford
In a time when many women feel overwhelmed, stretched thin or unsure where to turn for support with their health, AbFabFit Club in Bishop’s Stortford is proving that the right environment can change everything.
The women-only wellness hub is not just another gym, it is a space designed for transformation, connection and long-term support. Whether you are stepping into fitness for the first time in years or looking for a new challenge, AbFab offers a safe, supportive space to get stronger, both physically and mentally. It has a six-week Fit & Fabulous programme as well as the buggy-friendly FitMums and classes for over-60s.
The club’s mission is clear: to empower women to create lasting, lifelong changes to their mind, body and health. And that mission is delivered by a team of passionate, fully qualified personal trainers who go above and beyond to help members feel supported every step of the way.
AbFab, based in Raynham Road, is owned by husband-and-wife duo Mark and Jaine Alderson. Jaine started the business in Epping in 2018 before opening another branch in Waltham Abbey two years later. The Stortford hub opened in September 2021 and they now have in excess of 300 members.
The couple, who met in 1997 and are in their late 50s, are from north London, but have friends and family connections to Stortford so felt it was an ideal location.
AbFab recently won the Best Customer Journey title at the UK Fitness & Wellbeing Awards and Jaine and Mark have qualified to represent Great Britain at this autumn’s International Masters Weightlifting World Championships in Las Vegas.
“We just want to show our ladies what’s possible,” says Jaine. “You’re never too old, too busy or too far gone to get strong – physically and mentally.”
The heartbeat of AbFab is its incredible coaching team. Each coach brings expert knowledge in fitness, nutrition and mindset.
But what truly sets them apart is their care. Members consistently say that it is the coaches who keep them coming back, even on the tough days.
The coaches lead group training sessions designed to be inclusive and empowering, offering everything from strength and functional fitness to boxing and bootcamps. Sessions are welcoming and adapted to all fitness levels, whether you are restarting or levelling up.
Many women join AbFab through its six-week transformation programme – a structured kickstart that includes fitness classes, body composition scans with the InBody machine, nutrition resources and accountability.
But for most, those first six weeks are just the beginning. In fact, many members have been with AbFab since it opened in Stortford nearly four years ago, building habits, celebrating milestones and becoming part of a genuine community of like-minded women.
“We don’t just want to help women get in shape, we want to help them change their lives,” says Mark. “That takes time, support and a place where they feel like they belong.”
You do not need to be fit to join the AbFabFit Club, you just need to be ready to take the first step. Whether you have never touched a dumbbell or you are ready to get back on track, the team will meet you where you are at.
