A team from Waitrose helped to make the Bishop's Stortford Age Concern Christmas lunch extra-special for dozens of elderly guests and volunteers.

Forty people sat down together to enjoy a festive meal at the Apton Centres.

Waitrose employee Heather Cann showed how to arrange a seasonal floral bouquet while colleague Vanessa Daley delighted the audience with her rendition of classic carols.

Tracy Whitfield, the Northgate End store’s community marketing champion, said: “The members really enjoyed themselves. The flower arranging went down really well, and Vanessa did a great job getting everyone in the Christmas spirit with her carols.”

Waitrose’s support for Age Concern did not stop at the Christmas lunch. Tracy was able to attain £500 funding from the supermarket chain’s head office to help towards the cost of electrical work needed at the venue.

The team is spreading Christmas cheer further afield in Stortford, donating hampers to the YMCA in Northgate End and winter night shelter, Holy Trinity Church.
