2021 Indies community awards roll of honour: The winners and 'highly commended' recipients across the 13 categories

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT (sponsored by Daniel Robinson & Sons) – Peter Scarlett, for 61-year service to Bishop's Stortford rugby club plus service as co-founder and director of employment support charity Kickstart and the Rotary Club of Bishop's Stortford.

SPORTS PERSONALITY (sponsored by Tees Law) – Winner: Ashley Sutton, British Touring Car Championship winner for third time. Highly commended: Alan Hazell, Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club fixtures secretary and Covid officer.

CHARITY CHAMPION (sponsored by Mullucks) – Winner: Citizens Advice East Herts. Highly commended: Bishop's Stortford Food Bank.

JOHN TURNER MEMORIAL AWARD (sponsored by Stortford Indie) – Joint recipients: Cllr Mike Wood, long-serving town, district and county councillor and South Mill Arts trustee and volunteer, and Ray Greenwood, Bishop's Stortford Community Football Club lead coach.

CUSTOMER SERVICE (sponsored by Bishop's Stortford BID) – Winner: Humphreys Butchers. Highly commended: Amelia Rose Beauticians.

YOUNG SPORTS PERSONALITY (sponsored by Stort Chemicals) – Winner: Emma Jones, 19, cricketer with South East Stars and Oval Invincibles. Highly commended: Luke Dunham, 13, tennis player and 5k runner.

CHILD OF COURAGE (sponsored by David Lee Estate & Letting Agents) – Aaron Sandhu, 13, for bravery, resilience and community spirit after suffering a stroke at the age of 8.

COMMUNITY CHAMPION (sponsored by London Stansted Airport) – Winner: Zara Skidmore, for Operation CommUNITY. Highly commended: Janet Bellingham, for High Wych Scarecrow Festival and other events.

PERSON OF COURAGE (sponsored by Rayden Solicitors) – Beth Purvis, aka Bowel Warrior, national campaigner for better diagnosis of bowel cancer.

UNSUNG HERO (sponsored by Genmar) – Winner: Dr Sian Stanley, of Church Street Partnership and Stort Valley & Villages Primary Care Network, for heading Bishop's Stortford FC vaccination centre. Highly commended: Birchwood High School's 'Team PPE' for supplying over 12,000 items of personal protective equipment at the start of the Covid pandemic.
