67 pupils from 21 primary schools enjoy inspiring workshops at Bishop’s Stortford College

Bishop’s Stortford College welcomed 67 pupils from 21 primary schools to enjoy free workshops led by the private school’s staff.

Topics included acrylic painting, creating comic book characters, code-breaking, beginner Python coding and young scientists.

The Year 5 and 6 children were given the chance to broaden their knowledge, develop skills beyond the classroom and delve into subjects they may not have experienced before as part of the college’s Invite and Inspire programme.

After the second set of academic enrichment sessions, Emma Bowater, the college’s assistant head (partnerships), said: “We were thrilled to follow the successful launch of our Invite and Inspire programme with another session this month and even more delighted to have been able to open it up to local Year 6 children too.

“Our young visitors gave great feedback, with 90% saying they enjoyed learning new things, which is exactly what we’re striving to achieve with this programme.

“The staff-led workshops were supported by our sixth-form students, and we were very pleased to receive such positive feedback from parents on how their children enjoyed speaking with our students and how helpful, kind and friendly they were.”

Schools invited to take part included Richard Whittington, Avanti Meadows, Summercroft, All Saints, Manor Fields, St Joseph’s Catholic, Thorley Hill, Windhill21, St Michael’s C of E, Northgate and Thorn Grove primaries in Bishop’s Stortford, Reedings Junior School in Sawbridgeworth and Magna Carta Primary in Stansted.

Further free Invite and Inspire sessions for Year 5 and 6 children will take place on Saturday May 18 and Saturday June 22.
