Accuro gets £10k cash boost
Accuro has been given a £10,000 cash injection thanks to lottery players.
The National Lottery Community Fund awarded the grant to the Start Hill-based charity, which supports people with disabilities across West Essex.
Accuro plans to use the funding for its adult friendship scheme, which aims to reduce social isolation.
Adults with disabilities are given opportunities to take part in leisure and social activities within their communities.
The team at Accuro believe that friendships are an integral part of human life, but people with a disability tend to have fewer friends and opportunities for socialising which can have a negative impact on their mental health and self-esteem.
Natalie Emuss, Accuro’s fundraising manager, said: “Accuro’s Adult Friendship Scheme benefits over 80 adults in Harlow and Uttlesford. The £10,000 received from the National Lottery Communtiy Fund will enable us to further revitalise our scheme.
“We provide a wide range of social opportunities including bowling, meals out, quizzes, theatre, cinema and music events for local people with a disability to meet and make friends.
“It’s all about securing future independence and, once learned, these enable young adults to access the community with greater confidence.
“We believe that by providing support to adults with disabilities, we can create a more joyful and inclusive society that recognises and embraces the individualities of all its members.”
