Adorable baby animals the stars of the show at Daisy May's Spring Farm Fun Day

Animal-loving youngsters had a go at caring for some adorable chicks, ducklings, lambs and kids at Daisy May’s Farm’s Spring Fun Day.

Around 500 people braved the rain and wind to support the team of volunteers at the Elsenham farmyard on Sunday.

The visitors fed the animals, took part in a spring-themed treasure hunt through the woodland, planted violas and adorned their flower pots, decorated some Easter eggs, had their faces painted and embarked on pony rides.

Daisy May’s Farm is a not-for-profit rescue centre and several of their animals were adopted after they were abandoned or neglected.

While some of the baby animals that the children met on Sunday were born on the farm, some of the lambs were adopted when they were orphaned; the team have bottle-fed the cuddly creatures to make sure they grow up big and strong.

A team of around 20 volunteers care for the animals. The farm rehomes some of its rescue animals, but some stay at Daisy May’s Farm permanently, providing the team with the stars of the show when the volunteers put on fundraising events, such as this one, to help generate cash towards their running costs.

The fun day was the first event for some of the farm’s newest volunteers, and even though they were kept thoroughly busy, the visitors were all receptive, positive and supportive of the team’s hard work at the farm.
