The 309 (Sawbridgeworth) Squadron of RAF Air Cadets is holding an open evening and visitors can meet the cadets and staff and experience some of the activities on offer.
Over the past 35 years the squadron, based at its headquarters in Cutforth Road, has given more than 500 cadets the "pastime of a lifetime".
Commanding officer Flt Lt Alex Fuller urged people to forget about any preconceptions that the cadets was just about preparing youngsters for military service - it also provides life skills in leadership, management, discipline, and communication.
"No matter what ambitions you have in life being an air cadet will undoubtedly help you on your way," said Alex.
The open evening is being held on Tuesday November 16, 8pm-9pm.
