Charity champ Ray Cogan completes marathon year of fundraising for St Clare Hospice
St Clare Hospice supporter and Indies award nominee Ray Cogan has completed a mammoth year of fundraising for the hospice with 16 gruelling physical challenges.
The 36-year-old has raised £4,500 after completing his final test this month – the charity's Santa Run.
The dad of two initially intended to take part in 12 events in memory of his friend David Ramm, who received care from the hospice in 2015.
As the year progressed, the Stansted resident decided to up his goal to 16 races – which saw him cover a total of 64 miles swimming, 1,200 miles cycling and 828 miles running, including his training.
Ray said: "It has been an amazing year. Whilst I recognise that all the swimming, cycling and running in the world could not bring Dave back, it has been comforting to know that people have sponsored me and donated to the hospice so that they can deliver the same level of care that I observed when Dave and his family were being looked after by the hospice."
Ray's efforts also earned him a nomination for the Charity Champion title at the Indies awards last month. His name was put forward by Keith Mullings, who runs Koru gym on the Peek Business Park in Bishop's Stortford where Ray trains.
