Popular Sawbridgeworth town mayor Greg Rattey gets another year in office

Sawbridgeworth’s popular mayor has been voted in for a second year after fellow town councillors gave him the green light.

Cllr Greg Rattey told colleagues at the council’s statutory annual meeting on Monday evening (May 23) his mayoral year had been a “fantastic experience” and he had enjoyed every minute.

He stressed that the council was not political, adding "long may it continue". Cllr Rattey is a Conservative.

"It's been a year of unity for Sawbridgeworth Town Council and we've worked together as a body," said Cllr Rattey, who heralded the town's handling of the Ukraine refugee crisis.

During his second term he will raise money for mental health charity Mind and for Isabel Hospice. In 2021-22 he raised £2,900 for the Men’s Health Forum and The Hailey Centre at Sayesbury Manor, Bell Street.

Cllr Rattey, whose deputy will be Cllr Ruth Buckmaster, added: “We truly are a unique town. Our businesses are more united than ever. We should be mighty proud of our town.”
