Birchanger playground knife threat incident: Essex Police issues appeal for witnesses




Police are appealing for witnesses after a boy threatened other children at the village playground in Birchanger with a knife.

The incident happened at around 5pm on Monday (Sept 20). A spokesman for Essex Police said that it was keen to speak to anyone who had seen the incident take place.

"We are investigating after a boy was threatened with a knife in Birchanger Park. Thankfully, neither the victim nor his friends were injured during the incident.

"No arrests have been made and our enquiries are ongoing."

The boy concerned attends Birchanger Church of England (VC) School. In a statement issued on Tuesday (Sept 21) headteacher Claire Berry said: "Appropriate and proportionate internal action has been taken with regard to the pupil."

She reassured parents concerned about dangerous items being taken into school that it took safeguarding measures seriously. "We assure parents safeguarding procedures are followed at all times and the safety of pupils and staff members remains of utmost concern to us."
