Avanti Brook Primary School pupil wins competition to design road safety sign for Stortford Fields
A pupil at Avanti Brook Primary School has designed a warning sign for drivers at Stortford Fields.
Developer Taylor Wimpey challenged Year 1 children to come up with the road safety measure and Amelia D’Souza created the winning design.
Her sign will be installed on the estate and she was awarded a £50 book token by the company.
To say thank you for taking part, Taylor Wimpey gave the school £200 and donated reflective snap bands to keep the children safe when crossing the road.
The initiative was part of Road Safety Week, which takes place every November, to educate children and parents.
Sarah Samuels, head of Avanti Brook, said: “We are so proud of our Year 1 children for taking part in the competition to raise awareness of road safety.
“Our school is located at the heart of our new community, with most children travelling by foot to school each day. Their safety is paramount, and I am delighted that Amelia’s sign will be displayed for all road users as a reminder to slow down and remain vigilant of pedestrians.”
Rozita Gharavi, sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North Thames, said: “National Road Safety Week is a fantastic initiative, and we are proud to have supported Avanti Brook Primary School, which is located close to our Stortford Fields development.
“We hope that the road safety sign will help to encourage people to slow down in the area and keep the children safe when near roads.”
