Avanti Meadows is name of Bishop's Stortford's newest primary school
Bishop's Stortford's next primary school – which is set to open its doors in a year – is to be called Avanti Meadows.
The St Michael's Hurst school off Farnham Road will be one of three on the Bishop's Stortford North development to be run by Avanti Schools Trust.
Local education authority Herts County Council picked the Hindu faith-based organisation – which runs seven schools in London and Leicestershire following the Vaishnavist tradition – as the sponsor for the new primary.
Avanti Meadows aims to be the "first choice" for families living at Stortford Fields and St Michael's Hurst.
The three form-of-entry primary will have 90 reception class pupils from September 2020 and grow to 630 across its seven year groups. It will also have a 26-place nursery.
Avanti will also be responsible for a 420-pupil, 2FE primary in the west, near Hoggate's Wood, and for a secondary school with 900 places on a campus straddling the A120 bypass. All three will be non-faith in a new departure for Avanti.
Parents of prospective Avanti Meadows pupils will be able to apply for a place between November 4 and January 15, and will be able to learn more about what will be on offer at information sessions on September 26, October 3 and October 16, all at 2pm.
Avanti, which currently has 2,700 students and 250 members of staff, has appointed Deborah Walters as principal of the new school.
In an address to families on a new website, she says: "Avanti Meadows Primary School will provide parents and pupils with the highest standards of education and pastoral care.
"We want our children to take pride in the new school and for every member of the school community to work hard to provide high-quality education, care and support for every child and every family.
"We will set the highest expectations from the outset to ensure that we provide creative learning experiences which inspire and challenge our pupils to achieve the very best in all aspects of their learning."
She adds: "The site for Avanti Meadows will be a brand new building and the facilities will be bespoke, contemporary and first-class, which will make for a unique learning experience.
"We are working in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council to ensure that careful planning and preparation is in place to make Avanti Meadows a first-choice school for the children of Bishop's Stortford North."
She previously led Avanti Court Primary School in Redbridge.
