Award for compassionate Princess Alexandra Hospital nurse’s care for the dying

A charge nurse in Princess Alexandra Hospital’s accident and emergency department in Harlow has been recognised for the compassionate way he cares for dying patients.

Interim chief nurse Giuseppe Labriola presented Steven Hart with a prestigious DAISY Award.

He said: “Steven’s nomination clearly demonstrates how he puts the patient at the heart of all he does; going above and beyond to support patients and their families in extremely emotional and difficult circumstances.

“A very heartfelt thank you to Steven, and all of his colleagues in the emergency department, for all they do day in and day out for our patients.”

The DAISY programme enables patients, families and colleagues to honour a nurse or midwife who has made a difference in their care.

The aim is to spotlight nurses and midwives who go the extra mile to ensure patients at Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust receive high-quality care.

For winning in August, Steven received a certificate, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe, a pin badge, a copy of the full nomination, a gift bag and cinnamon rolls.

Winners are also entitled to professional development, education and wellness benefits.
