Stansted Airport: Former MD returns to launch new combined WHSmith and InMotion store
A former Stansted Airport managing director returned to the Uttlesford hub to launch a new retail concept.
In his latest role in charge of WHSmith Travel, Andrew Harrison officially opened the 557 sq m (6,000 sq ft) combined WHSmith and InMotion store.
The outlet – with a bespoke, wrap-around, LED fascia – offers travel essentials, books, gifts, food and drinks plus an extensive range of technology and electrical accessories from premium brands including Apple, Bose and Samsung. An InMotion team provides regular live demonstrations of the latest products.
Mr Harrison, who began his career with Marks and Spencer, said: "We're delighted to have opened our first flagship combined WHSmith and InMotion store at London Stansted Airport. This stunning new store offers the very best in travel retail, with a tailored one-stop-shop solution that will really enhance passengers' journeys as they travel through the airport.
"We know that while it's the destination that matters to our customers, it's their journey that matters to us, and we're proud to provide a superior customer experience in this store through our live product demonstrations to entertain the whole family ahead of their flight. We've received very positive feedback since the store opened and we look forward to welcoming more customers over the months ahead."
Mr Harrison spent 15 years with Stansted Airport owner Manchester Airports Group (MAG) with a stint in charge at Manchester before taking the helm at Stansted from 2013 to 2016 as the operator's first boss after it bought the airport from BAA. He joined WHSmith in May this year.
