Sawbo Sessions: Community and businesses rallying to music night in aid of three charities that supported cancer battle mums

The community is getting behind the annual Sawbo Sessions music night set to be held next Saturday (Feb 25).

The event was launched in 2017 by Sawbridgeworth mum Maddy Kelly, who was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2014.

Sadly, Maddy and her friend Dawn Gibson, who helped with the event, both lost their battles with the disease last year, but friends and family vowed the show would go on and in the process continue to raise money for three charities that were close to the friends’ hearts.

A line-up of local bands is on the bill at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall in The Forebury, including The Ghias, Penguin, SLAG and Cockburn & Ballantine.

Organisers are overjoyed by the response from the community, both in buying tickets and also businesses sponsoring the event and providing raffle prizes.

The cost of the hall hire was covered by Wright & Co, which also donated champagne for the raffle, while fellow estate agent Mackay Property paid for the cost of insurance for the event and helped with decorations.

Raffle prizes including vouchers and gifts were donated by several businesses in the town to help raise funds for Bishop's Stortford's Hummingbird Cancer Support, Helen Rollason Cancer Charity and Cancer Research UK.

The full list of raffle prizes with donors are:

  • Two-hour spring clean donated by Haus Maids Bishop's Stortford
