Jingle Bell Sleigh: Barringtons Funeral Directors raises over £3,250 for St Clare and Isabel hospices

Isabel and St Clare hospices were given a funding boost thanks to two Bishop's Stortford business partners' mission to spread festive joy.

A week before Christmas, Nikki Field and Lisa Aldridge Weeks, who own and run Barringtons Funeral Directors in Hockerill Street, arranged the Jingle Bell Sleigh.

Santa and his 'elves' – Nikki, Lisa and younger family members – took an eight-mile tour of Stortford on the Friday then Harlow on the Saturday in a horse-drawn, open-topped carriage adorned with fairy lights.

They planned the routes in both towns to allow for plenty of social distancing, and onlookers were encouraged to wave to Father Christmas.

During the Stortford event, spectators donated £658.19 for Isabel Hospice. The Harlow event generated £2,597.24 for St Clare Hospice.

Both charities are dear to the hearts of Nikki and Lisa. Isabel looked after Nikki’s mother, Lynne Field, up until her death in October 2018 while Lisa’s mum, Sue Aldridge, who died in April the same year, was supported by St Clare.

Nikki and Lisa plan to repeat Jingle Bell Sleigh in December 2021. "We have some new ideas," said Nikki.
