Beekeeping for bee-ginners: Course running in Bishop's Stortford throughout March

If you've ever got a buzz from the idea of harvesting your own honey then a beekeeping course for beginners in Bishop's Stortford next month will have dozens swarming to take up the offer.

Each spring, Bishop's Stortford Beekeepers Association (BSBA) runs a course designed to give novice beekeepers the skills and confidence to start keeping their own bees, either in their garden or in the association’s apiary on the edge of the town.

The theory element is covered in four sessions held all four Tuesday evenings in March – from the 7th to the 28th – and, depending on the weather, practical sessions take place every Saturday from mid-April until the end of the season in late September.

The course is held early enough in the year that participants can start to keep bees from late spring and hopefully get their first harvest of honey this year.

BSBA is a hive of activity and a friendly group of local beekeepers who are always keen to help “newbees” on their way to becoming happy and competent keepers.

The cost of the course is £60 and participants need to become a BSBA member (minimum fee £5). If you are interested, email training@stortfordbees.org.uk or visit the website at www.stortfordbees.org.uk.
