Around 1,000 partygoers gathered at an end-of-summer beer and music festival at 'the best beer garden in Bishop's Stortford' on Saturday.

The family-friendly event was held at the Bishop’s Stortford Sports Trust in Cricketfield Lane, which is home to the cricket, tennis, squash and pool clubs. The aim was to raise money for the town’s annual music festival, Bish Bash 2020, and £1,250 was collected.

The sun shone all day as festival-goers enjoyed sets in the clubhouse by headliners The Real McKoys, Pocket Dust, Blues Inc, The Muggabees, Maystones, Boy Deluxe, Philip Marino and DJs Stortford Sound System.

Organiser Elaine Sedgwick said: “Lots of families attended, brought picnics and thoroughly enjoyed the event. Everyone loved the music throughout the afternoon and evening, and we had a group of young lads called The Busking 5 who entertained the crowds outside.”

Elaine and her team have received glowing praise from festival-goers – the acts, beer selection, gin bar, catering and glitter artist proved to be particularly popular.

“We had people who hadn’t visited the club before and they couldn’t believe how beautiful the location is," said Elaine. "We had several people sign up to our club social membership on the day.” This costs £20 a year and gives members a 10% discount on the bar’s drinks and snack selection.

“There was a fantastic sense of community spirit with lots of people just relaxing in the sun and enjoying themselves. The support for both our club and the Stortford music festival was amazing and we all felt quite overwhelmed by it.

“It was great to see the ground being used for an event like this.”
