Bikes stolen from Bishop’s Stortford couple found dumped in bushes

A couple of keen cyclists were shocked to discover two bicycles had been stolen from their Bishop’s Stortford home – but less than 10 minutes after contacting the Indie they were found.

A Muddy Fox-style off-road bike had been left chained to another, which had two flat tyres, in the car port of the Sunningdale home of Mark and Joy Nicholas as a security measure, but thieves took both between Wednesday and Saturday last week (Mar 27-30).

Mark said that by stealing the older bike with the flat tyres the thieves probably did them a favour, but it was inconvenient for the other to have been taken.

But within minutes of speaking to the Indie to raise awareness, Mark revealed a neighbour had contacted them to tell them the bikes had been found in bushes nearby in The Firs.

Mark, who said he and Joy are keen cyclists, in the past riding around Yorkshire and using the bikes to pop into town as and when, added there was minor damage.

Bikes have been targeted by thieves over the past few days with two seen floating in the River Stort and one on the river bank.
