Patriotic Birchwood High School students celebrate Queen's Platinum Jubilee
Birchwood High School celebrated the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in patriotic style, festooning the campus with flags, bunting and paper chains created by students.
To mark the 70th anniversary of Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, staff dressed in red, white and blue and “Her Majesty” found time in her busy schedule to visit the Parsonage Lane secondary’s library last Thursday (May 26).
There, during lunchtime, more than 50 students from across all year groups took part in a bespoke Platinum Jubilee quiz compiled by librarian Joanne Gibson. The event started with the National Anthem, God Save the Queen.
The winners were Tabitha Gray, Ellie Gibson, Rubie Goodvin, Ashleigh Murphy, Harry Freegard and Joe Snell, with Lyla Fagan, Amelie Rifat, Tatiana Simou, Poppy Medley and Matilda Bryan second and Summer Haylock, Ellie O’Conner and Amelia Ingham third.
Irene Barnard, who helped to organise the quiz, said: “The students had a wonderful time and had clearly been swatting up on their topic.”
The Bishop’s Stortford school’s catering team created cupcakes decorated with a queen motif and served a traditional afternoon tea of sandwiches, sausage rolls, shortbread and a fruit scone with jam and cream.
