Bishop’s Stortford High School students raise money for Grove Cottage, join TUBS litter-pick volunteers and honour war dead
Sixth-formers at Bishop’s Stortford High School have been showing their commitment to charity, the environment and the war dead.
Nine students raised £740 for Mencap centre Grove Cottage, which is facing a £2.5m bill to rebuild its London Road base in Bishop’s Stortford, by selling soft toys on a teddy bear stall.
Grove provides social and educational activities for people of all ages with learning disabilities to help them develop their potential. It also supports their families with respite services.
A team of students also spruced up their new neighbourhood. They joined Tidy Up Bishop’s Stortford (TUBS) volunteers to clear rubbish from St James’ Park. In September, the secondary moved from London Road to a purpose-built campus on the Stortford South estate.
And on Armistice Day (Monday November 11), while 1,200 students attended a Remembrance service at school, four boys represented the secondary at the war memorial in Castle Gardens.
Assistant head Natalie Mile said: “At Bishop’s Stortford High School, we feel it is important to truly be a part of our wider community.
“Volunteering, helping others and community involvement is one of our school values, and we are pleased to encourage and support our students to take responsibility for their local environment.”
