Hertford and Stortford MP Josh Dean ready to ‘break down the barriers to opportunity’ with Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson
Hertford and Stortford MP Josh Dean met Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson to discuss the Government’s mission to “break down barriers to opportunity”.
Miss Phillipson encouraged educational settings in the Hertford and Stortford constituency to get involved with the Government’s work, including rolling out new breakfast clubs to boost attainment and attendance and kickstarting plans for more school-based nurseries to make childcare more accessible and affordable.
Mr Dean talked about his recent visits to Presdales School in Ware, Hertford Regional College and St Elizabeth’s Centre at Perry Green, and agreed to work with the Government.
The Secretary of State said: “It was brilliant to meet with Josh to update him on the Government’s Plan for Change and how I want to work with him to deliver on Labour’s mission to break down the barriers to opportunity.
“The Conservatives left a trail of devastation across education – falling school standards, crumbling buildings and a SEND system that was ‘lose, lose, lose’ in their own words.
“This Labour Government is fixing the foundations and putting education back at the heart of national life.”
Mr Dean said: “As our Member of Parliament, I’m committed to ensuring every child and young person in Hertford and Stortford has the opportunity to thrive.
“Our schools are full of dedicated staff and bright young minds, but they need the right support to unlock their potential.
“I welcome the Education Secretary’s focus on improving attainment and access to childcare and will work tirelessly to ensure these initiatives meet the needs of families across Hertford and Stortford. Together, we can build a brighter future for the next generation.”
