New home for Bishop's Stortford Learners Community Library
Bishop's Stortford Learners Community Library (LCL) has been saved – by borrowing space from another organisation in the town.
The 13-year-old facility for families was given notice to quit its base of seven years at Herts and Essex Community Hospital in Haymeads Lane late last year to make way for expanded GP services. It has now secured a new home at Bishops House day service in Windhill.
Herts county councillor Colin Woodward (Con, Bishop's Stortford West) has boosted the library by granting £1,300 from his £10,000 locality budget for storage costing £1,572.
The new units will enable the facility to reopen in its new base this month.
The Learners Community Library loans books, toys and other resources to children and young people aged from birth to 19 who need additional support to prevent or minimise learning problems and to improve their communication skills and emotional development. It provides similar support for those with dementia.
Cllr Woodward said: "I did not want LCL to end with the well-earned retirement of its founder Teresa Furze and so I introduced it to Herts County Council's Bishops House."
