Blood test services at Princess Alexandra Hospital move as work to improve emergency department begins

Blood test services at Princess Alexandra Hospital are being temporarily relocated from Monday (January 6).

Works are under way to improve facilities in the Harlow hospital’s emergency department and urgent treatment centre (UTC).

While these are carried out, blood test services are being relocated so that Gibberd Ward can be used as a temporary UTC.

The phlebotomy unit will move from Gibberd Ward to the old therapies gym on the ground floor in the Blue Zone, at the end of the cardiology corridor.

Patients with appointments will be notified of the change by text message and all new bookings will highlight the temporary location.

Opening hours are unaffected and services will operate from 7am to 4.30pm.

When the UTC relocates back to the main building, in spring, blood test services will return to Gibberd Ward.

Phlebotomy at Herts and Essex Hospital, Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital, Epping, are unaffected.
