Bloor Homes submits outline scheme for 270 new homes as part of next phase of Walpole Meadows expansion

Bloor Homes has submitted an outline application to build 270 homes on the outskirts of Stansted.

It is the next phase of development of Walpole Meadows, extending into farmland north of the housing estate, off Cambridge Road. The site has been earmarked in Uttlesford District Council’s (UDC) draft Local Plan.

But Stansted district councillor Geoffrey Sell (Stansted North) accused the developer of “jumping the gun” ahead of any decision by the Government’s planning inspectorate on whether or not to approve the authority’s planning document – a decision which is expected in the summer.

In a letter to residents, Mr Sell said: “We believe that the inspectors will make a judgement on whether the local plan is sound or not by this summer.

“Bloor Homes have, however, jumped the gun and submitted a planning application for 270 homes.”

He added: “Although the site is in the Local Plan it will mean if approved further pressure on the B1383 and take development right to the parish boundary with Ugley.”

The outline scheme includes 35% affordable housing, land for community use, parkland, public open space and a children’s play area.

The site measures 6.4acres (2.6ha) and comprises two parcels of arable land, with Pennington Lane forming the northern and western boundaries.

Bloor also has a scheme submitted to UDC to build a further 57 homes on land to the east of High Lane.

A planning statement produced by the Pegasus Group on behalf of Bloor says: “Bloor Homes are keen to continue the positive working relationship with UDC...to support the Local Plan preparation in tandem with the application.”

The plans will be determined by UDC’s planning committee on a date yet to be decided.
