Shock for Stortford resident after BMW spins off Windhill and comes to rest under his bedroom window
A BMW car came to rest inches from the bedroom window of a resident on Sunday evening after careering off the road.
Alan Gott was cooking in his kitchen when a neighbour banged on his door and told him: "You need to come out and see this."
When he got outside he saw the car had apparently skidded off the road and come to a stop next to the wall of his flat in Windhill, Bishop's Stortford.
"I didn't hear anything," said Alan, 60, who works for Barnes Flooring in the town.
He said that the car appeared to have struck a wheelie bin and deposited its contents as it veered towards his flat. He was told by the neighbour the driver with two passengers "disappeared" quite quickly.
Almost as quick was the response from police, as a patrol car arrived minutes after Alan rang them.
Alan says it's not the first time a car has left the road near the spot, which is on the sharp bend, and he is considering calling for action to be taken by the authorities to slow traffic.
"I thought 'Someone's going to get killed next time'," he said.
He said it was a lucky escape for his Buell motorcycle, which was parked covered underneath the window. "I'd have been really annoyed if that had been hit as you can't get parts for it any more," he said.
Herts police attended the scene at 6.20pm. Officers have traced the driver and enquiries are continuing.
