Boy lashes out after being refused entry to 18 certificate film at Empire cinema in Bishop's Stortford

A boy who was refused entry to an 18 certificate film at Bishop's Stortford's Empire cinema smashed up a hand sanitiser station in anger.

Police are investigating the criminal damage, which happened at the Anchor Street leisure complex last Friday (June 4) at around 2.40pm, during half term.

The boy, aged 13-14 with brown hair with a centre parting, was one of nine youths – five boys and four girls – who were turned away from the cinema for being under age.

PC Derek Lewin, of Bishop's Stortford police, said: "The group became irritated and one of the youths kicked an automatic hand sanitiser dispenser, causing a significant amount of damage to the unit, which will cost £300 to replace."

Police inquiries will include looking at CCTV footage from the venue.
