Three teenagers arrested less than two hours after car is stolen from Stansted

Three teenagers were arrested with the aid of a police helicopter less than two hours after a car was stolen from Stansted in the early hours of today.

Essex Police received a call reporting a blue Land Rover Discovery had been stolen from the Chapel Hill area shortly before 2.10am on Thursday (December 19).

Officers were able to trace it to Chelmsford, where it failed to stop for them.

The people inside later got out and fled on foot, but, with assistance from the National Police Air Service, three people were arrested.

Two 15-year-old boys from Danbury were held on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. One of them is also suspected of the attempted theft of another motor vehicle and failing to stop when directed, while the other was also arrested on suspicion of going equipped.

And an 18-year-old man from Little Dunmow is suspected of theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop when directed. All three are currently in custody.

Police ask members of the public with any information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage in relation to this incident to contact them, quoting incident 83 of 19 December.
