A firm foundation of customer service underpins Carol's of Bishop's Stortford's success.

The South Street lingerie shop is the latest town centre trader to be named as Bishop's Stortford BID's (Business Improvement District's) Business of the Month.

It was founded in London's Whitechapel in 1987 and moved to the town in 2001. The store has three full-time staff in addition to owner and underwear guru Carol Segal.

She said: "We are an independent lingerie and swimwear specialist, including medical fitting. We have won many awards since 1987 and we are held in high regard in the lingerie and swimwear world. Quality of service and fit at a high standard is our aim.

"We moved the business to Bishop's Stortford 18 years ago and have enjoyed being in a friendly town that is easy to travel to, as many of our customers come from many miles away."

Carol is happy her team's efforts have been recognised by the BID and hopes the new organisation will promote a "thriving retail experience" for shoppers.

She said: "There are two things that we would love to change in Bishop's Stortford. One is parking – or I should say, there's not enough. We would like to make it easy for people to pop into town.

"And the other is the Christmas fair that is held in Bishop's Stortford on a Saturday in December, which is a busy day for us. It should be held on a Sunday, when it doesn't conflict with customers trying to shop."
