M11 bridge closures: Repairs and resurfacing of south bridge at Birchanger Green J8 postponed until July
Work due to start on Friday evening (May 20) to resurface and repair the bridges over the M11 at junction 8 Birchanger Green has been postponed for three weeks.
National Highways announced that "due to unforeseen circumstances" the project – which was supposed to run for six weekends until Monday July 4 – was unable to begin as planned and would be put back to June 10.
Work on the north bridge will take place from 9pm that Friday until 5am on Monday June 13 and subsequently over the weekends of June 17-20 and June 24-27.
During the work on the north bridge M11 northbound traffic wishing to exit at J8 to travel east and A120 eastbound traffic will be diverted up the motorway to J9a near Saffron Walden before rejoining the M11 southbound and exiting at J8, a journey of some 30 miles.
According to National Highways, the south bridge work originally planned for three weekends will now take place over only one weekend, Friday July 1 to Monday July 4.
During those works southbound M11 traffic wishing to exit at J8 and travel towards Bishop’s Stortford will have to continue on the motorway to J7 at Harlow and join the M11 northbound to exit at J8, a journey of 20 miles. Westbound A120 traffic will follow the same diversion route.
Non-motorway traffic heading west will be diverted via Priory Wood roundabout, along Round Coppice Road, onto Bury Lodge Lane, turn left to follow Church Road and Forest Hall Road to join the B1383 south to the A120 at Bishop’s Stortford and vice-versa during the works for the north bridge.
