Bungling burglars left behind their getaway vehicle after fleeing from the scene of an attempted break-in in Bishop's Stortford.

The Raynham Road industrial estate premises of Dr Blooms, which specialises in supplying hydroponic horticulture equipment, was targeted at 11.30pm on Saturday (Sept 25).

Bishop’s Stortford’s Insp Mark Collins said the sound of police car sirens was likely to have scared off the burglars.

“The offenders cut a hole in the chain link fence next to the industrial area and tried to gain entry via a shutter to the shop,” he said.

“But they were disturbed and made off, leaving their vehicle and a jemmy at the scene.”

Police are examining CCTV footage from several businesses in the area while forensics teams have seized the Renault Master van that was left behind.

Anyone with information should contact PCSO Scott Rome on 101.
