Sawbridgeworth town mayor launches Donate My Bake fundraising scheme with cafés

Some of Sawbridgeworth’s cafés are pitching in to boost the next stage of the mayor’s charity appeal with a Donate My Bake fundraising scheme.

Mayor Cllr Annelise Furnace launched a Rate My Bake scheme in July and the “excellent efforts” of Cub Scouts from the 1st Sawbridgeworth pack raised £260. Youngsters baked cakes and asked friends and family to rate them, with money raised going to the appeal.

Now, cafés have agreed to have a cake/bake available to customers, with some proceeds being donated to the mayor’s two chosen charities: Essex & Herts Air Ambulance and 1st Sawbridgeworth Scouts.

“I’m very grateful to the cafés for doing this,” said Cllr Furnace. “They know how difficult it is for charities to raise funds at the moment, given current Covid-19 restrictions, particularly on gatherings. Any contributions really do count.”
