If you recognise him or have information about the incident, call non-emergency number 101 or email mark.rippon@herts.police.uk, quoting crime reference 41/44597/22.

Witnesses can also report information online at herts.police.uk/report or speak to an operator in the force communications room via online webchat at herts.police.uk/contact. Alternatively, stay anonymous by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org.

PCSO Rippon added: "I'd like to remind the public of the steps they can take to help protect themselves from pickpockets.

"Keep your purse, wallet or bag closed and secure at all times and carry your bag in front of you or diagonally across your chest.

"Make sure to return cards to your purse or wallet quickly and zip it up or button it. Use a purse that's difficult to open. One that zips or snaps shut is best.

"Conceal your wallet in a buttoned or zipped pocket where it doesn't bulge and keep a list, separate from your wallet and phone, of contact numbers of family in case your phone is stolen."
