Canoe believe it? River Stort is venue for Grove Cottage fundraiser

Bishop’s Stortford Canoe Club (BSCC) is holding a taster session for children and parents to raise cash for Grove Cottage.

On Tuesday (August 20), between 12.45pm and 3.45pm, the club will run a series of 20-minute sessions on the River Stort, starting from the tow path beside the Bishop’s Stortford Register Office in Hockerill Street.

Participants can register on the day. Rosie Wren, Grove Cottage’s fundraising manager, advised: “Just wear some comfortable clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting a bit wet, and flat shoes.”

BSCC secretary Angela Aldam said: “We are delighted to once again be supporting Grove Cottage with this summer charity event.

“Our coaches will be bringing along some extremely stable novice boats suitable for everyone from ages eight and upwards.

“Younger children, aged five and over, will be assessed by the coaches on the day. If they’re too small for the kayaks they will be accommodated in our coaches’ open canoes.”

It costs £5 per person to take part and Grove Cottage can only accept cash. Repeat sessions may be possible depending on demand. Visit www.mencapgrovecottage.org to find out more.
