A car was damaged when it crashed into and demolished a brick pillar at Thorley Neighbourhood Centre in Bishop's Stortford late on Friday night.

The bonnet of the grey Ford Fiesta was crunched by the impact, the grille was split and the passenger's side of the front windscreen cracked on impact.

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Police were called just before 11pm on Friday, September 4, to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision in Bishop's Stortford.

"It was reported that a grey Ford Fiesta had collided with a pillar in Sainsbury's car park off Friedberg Avenue. No injuries were reported."

The debris and car were cordoned off on Saturday morning as shoppers returned to Sainsbury's supermarket and the neighbourhood centre's other outlets off Villiers-sur-Marne Avenue. It proved a talking point for customers, including Indie reader Simon Dinwiddy, who photographed the aftermath.
