Car crashes through street flower planter on Stansted’s Cambridge Road and smashes it to pieces

A car has destroyed a concrete planter along Cambridge Road following an accident.

The street furniture, which displays seasonal flowers, is one of several large rectangular planters that line the route.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Tuesday evening (June 3). A parish council workman was spotted clearing up the large fragments of broken concrete and sweeping up the soil the following morning.

Stansted Parish Council clerk Ruth Clifford said the driver of the car that mounted the kerb and struck the planter had been in contact with them to inform them of the damage.

“It got hit by a car - we're in touch with the driver. It will be replaced at some point, but they don't make those any more so we'll have to think about what we put there,” she said.

“I understand the driver was OK. It seems that no other cars were involved..they have made themselves known to us.”
