Northgate End car park: Thieves steal catalytic converter from car in multi-storey in Bishop's Stortford
Thieves struck at a Bishop's Stortford town centre car park on Monday, stealing a catalytic converter.
The exhaust emission control device was stolen from a Honda Jazz in the Northgate End multi-storey between 9.05am and 2.40pm.
After the father of the woman whose vehicle was targeted reported the theft on Facebook, one commenter claimed it was the seventh car to be hit by cat con thieves at the car park.
A spokesperson for East Herts Council would not confirm that, but said that CCTV cameras had been placed on every floor of the car park in an effort to deter crime.
"These are monitored by our control room in Stevenage and they liaise directly with the police to support their enquiries," said the spokesperson.
"Northgate End car park has Safer Parking Scheme accreditation. This is a police crime prevention initiative which aims to reduce both crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities."
