Pupils at Birchanger C of E (VC) Primary School have been showing off their writing skills with cheery letters to care home residents.

Head Claire Berry said: "The children wanted to extend their ethos of love, care, courage and truth to those who may be missing seeing their loved ones during the pandemic. To do this they dedicated their learning time to connecting with older members of our community."

Recipients of their efforts included residents of Halycon Care's Hazel End care home at St Michael's Hurst, Bishop's Stortford.

Claire said: "The children thought about what they would like to read in a letter, and they combined that with their writing skills and, of course, their best handwriting."

Staff at the care home said the messages put a smile on the face of residents.

Claire added: "We hope to develop the links that the youngest children have with the older members of our society over the following months and years."
