Celebrating World Book Day at Hockerill Anglo-European College

Staff and students at Hockerill Anglo-European College spent World Book Day focusing on reading for enjoyment and celebrating reading in all its forms.

There were special assemblies throughout the week for all year groups and serialised story instalments recorded by Year 12 reading mentors, which were played during form times.

Every lunchtime, the Reading Nook was open for students who wanted to listen to a member of staff reading from a favourite book.

Students also enjoyed completing the Masked Reader Quiz, by listening to recorded extracts from selected books and matching these to the masked images of teachers.

Year 12 students from Interact Club worked in the wings, producing promotional posters for the special events, while others oversaw a book swap in the library on World Book Day.

The last ten minutes of Thursday (March 7) were given over to a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ session when staff and students took time out of their lessons to conclude the celebrations with a period of private or shared reading.
