Sawbridgeworth air cadets holding open evening to offer newcomers chance to take up 'pastime of a lifetime'
Young people are being offered the chance to take up the "pastime of a lifetime" by Sawbridgeworth's air cadets squadron.
An open evening is being held by 309 (Sawbridgeworth) Squadron Air Cadets. Visitors will have an opportunity to meet the cadets and staff and experience some of the activities on offer.
The squadron is asking: "What did you do last weekend? The answer for many 12- to 18-year-olds probably won’t involve flying, gliding, adventurous activities, camping, sports, shooting, earning qualifications and incredible training opportunities. But it could!"
Commanding officer Flt Lt Alex Fuller said: "Forget about any pre-conceptions you might have – the air cadets is not just about wearing a uniform or preparing you for military service.
"Only a small percentage of our cadets go on to join the Armed Forces, and for those that do, the air cadets has provided a solid foundation on which to build.
"But for those that don’t, the air cadets has provided fun and memorable experiences and new skills that will prove vital in any walk of life – leadership, management, discipline and communication to name a few."
To book a place at the open evening on Friday March 24, from 8pm-9pm, at the squadron's HQ in Cutforth Road, see https://bit.ly/309aircadets.
